10/15/2012 - POST-RACE UPDATE

The Perfect 10 Rogaine : A Fall Filled Challenge!

Start with a BEAUTIFUL fall day in the Missouri Ozarks, carefully place 36 checkpoints/controls across the northern part of the Lake of the Ozarks State Park, add 59 enthusiastic Bonk Hard Racers.   What do you have?   The Perfect 10 Rogaine!

At 6:45 am sharp, maps were distributed for racers to plan their day's work.  Deciding which checkpoints/controls to collect (various point values) and establishing a route plan, teams and solos worked on their strategy and filed their Intention sheets.   By 8:00 am, the official race start, all solos and teams were ready to head out on a day of discovery.

Just prior to race start, every racer was entered into a drawing for an Osprey BackpackEunika Rogers' name came out of the bag!   Congratulations!

CPs 10-19 were worth 10 points each, 20-29 were worth 20 points each, and 30-39 were worth 30 points each.   CPs 1- 6 were of particular interest as they were 100 points each, however, they were located at the most distant locations on the course in areas of thicker vegetation and/or significant climb.    Add to that the Big 6 Bonus (find all 100 point CPs) and you would earn 100 bonus points.   The day's total possible points were 1300.

Then it was off on foot in several directions from the start.   The majority of the racers headed east while a few chose to go north and a few southwest.   From there the crowd dispersed into the vast forest land. Natural water sources were limited on the course so 4 water points were established (compiments of Bridal Cave) for racers to refill their supply.   Based on water usage at the points along the course, it appears many went in a counter clockwise direction.   Food was also made available all afternoon at the HQ/Hash House but there were few takers as most everyone chose to maximize their face time with the trees.   By mid to late afternoon, the forecasted rain showers arrived that were welcomed by many as a refreshing way to cool off during the warm, humid day.   Just enough to cool off, not enough to make it an issue.

Racers started arriving in large numbers after 5:00 pm right up until the 6:30 pm course closing time.   Once finished, racers were treated to a hearty meal and drinks.   The Butcher Shop in Camdenton, MO not only supplied our Mid-Race chili and mac & cheese, they also provided the a Post-Race meal of BBQ brisket, cheesy potatoes, and baked beans. Thank you, Chris!

It was Dynamic Earth / Team Fusion - Ashley O'Reilly, Danny Collins, Jason Bettis 1270 , finishing first overall with  points, followed by second place team, Lost But Found - Ryan & Stacey Stalder with 1010 points, and Iowa Lone Wolfpack racer, Joe Froehlich , in third place overall with 1010 points.

It is our sponsors that keep us going and put products and services into the hands of our racers.   We thank the following sponsors for their contributions:

Zanfel:
Zanfel sponsors us year-round and continues to place the best poison ivy wash directly in the hands of our racers.   By spending so much time in the woods, Bonk Hard Racers know the benefits of Zanfel.   Three lucky racers took home tubes of the miracle lotion. Zanfel.

Swiftwick:
Swiftwick compression socks remain a favorite among our racers as well as Swiftwick racing sleeves.   We are grateful for the Swiftwick products on our prize table as well as the awesome custom Bonk Hard Racing Sleeves.

kuat:
Thank you to kuat for the bicycle bottle locks.   Secure your bike with an ingenious lock that looks like a water bottle!   We thank kuat for their support throughout the entire year.

Columbia Sportswear:
We thank Columbia for shirts and gloves.   Columbia products are comfortable and provide warmth as well as cooling when needed.  Columbia knows sportswear.

Bridal Cave:
We thank Bridal Cave for supplying all our water needs for the day, not only at Race HQ but on the course as well.   Visting the Ozarks is not complete without a tour of Bridal Cave.   If you like our "above ground" adventure, you will love the beauty of the Bridal Cave "below ground" adventure.

The Perfect 10 kept you busy ALL DAY!   Can you think of anything more fun to do on a beautiful fall Saturday? Congratulations to all racers taking on the challenge!  We hope you had a wonderful adventure and will join us again soon.
