BONK (verb) - Total exhaustion during a long race or ride. Also known as hitting the wall.
Bonk Hard Racing is dedicated to organizing fun, safe and challenging multisport events throughout the Midwest. Our goal is to meet the growing demand for adventure races and other off-road events.
The sport of Adventure Racing is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports in the world. Cross-over athletes from cycling, running, duathlons, triathlons and paddling enjoy the challenge of multisport races where simply completing a race can be considered a victory. Many athletes also enjoy the switch from individual events to events focused heavily on teamwork, and the opportunity to try new disciplines like orienteering.
Founded in 2005 by Jason and Laura Elsenraat (avid adventure racers), Bonk Hard Racing quickly became the Midwest's premier adventure racing company.
Gary Thompson, a National Championship Orienteering course designer, and his wife Ellen, became Bonk Hard Racing owners in 2011.
Gary's background includes over 25 years of cross country racing, canoe racing, marathons, orienteering, adventure racing, and hiking (including a 2009 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail - 2,180 miles). He is the assistant cross country coach for Camdenton High School and designed the renowed Ha-Ha Tonka Cross County course used for local, district, and sectional meets.
Gary and Ellen (both with corporate Information Technology backgrounds) have developed software for cross country team scoring and adventure racing scoring and tracking). With Ellen managing the business of adventure racing and Gary developing outstanding venues and courses, they are are commited to continually enhancing Bonk Hard Racing events and making Bonk Hard Racing Adventure experiences the best in the country.
We hope you will join us for an adventure soon.
